I would hold out for a DSLR with a full size CCD. IIRC the 20D had the APS-C CCD.
I'm not sure that made sense. My 10D takes really good pictures even if it does have different sets of initials for the same sort of initial type things.

Which means the price of the 20D seems reasonable, but with no lenses, would be a frustrating few more months before you can do anything. Lenses go for a good price on ebay I've noticed, and very few good DSLRs come available.

Hants, DSLRs with the APS-C chip effectively increase the focal length of lenses by 60% (compared to 35mm bodies). This makes wide angle photography very expensive.

Magz, Sigma's EX range of lenses are excellent if you can afford them.

If you want to do sports you'll need a 300mm lens at least. Cheapest option would be a sigma 75-300. Cheap as chips but you will be looking to replace as your skills develop.

Personally, I couldn't live without my beloved:

20 - 35mm zoom.

Is the aperture (F/4) good enough for a decent depth of field?

OK, here is my theory. Im i am going to take a step back from photography, try BLOODY hard to get a flippen job and save like crazy.

My plan of action is to buy a;
Canon EOS 40D - £629.99
Sigma 70-300mm DG Macro http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sigma-70-300mm-f4-5-6-Macro-Canon/dp/B000AM7CJ0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1213126255&sr=8-4
Sigma 70-300mm DG APO Macro http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sigma-70-300mm-f4-5-6-Macro-Canon/dp/B000ALLMI8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1213126255&sr=8-1

What do you think?

Not sure which lens, is APO necessary?
