A remarkable 6 league titles, and then Parkinson's for half his life. I remember reading sad stories about his struggles many years ago. RIP.

Such a tough player in his prime,he would get a crunching tackle & stay on his feet even in the penalty area ! much to the annoyance of Arsenal manager Bertie Mee.To go to ground was a sign of weakness to him.
He was a prolific forward with a Arsenal side in the early 1970s.Bob Paisley turned him into the wonderful midfielder that he was.
A real mystery that he only got 17 caps for England.

Joan Ballman Landlady of The Locomotive in New North Road for the past 34 years.Previously the Landlady of The Mitre,Mary Arches St when I frequented the pub in the early to mid 80s.Also ran The Stocks Bar at The Bystock Hotel from the late 1970s.

A really nice lady.A character with a huge personality.

There were/are a few ’herberts’ in the Loco.It was not my kind of pub but it was always good to pop into say hello to Joan & her barmaid friend of many years Irene, who also worked with her in all those years(she passed away last year)
