Once again I find myself almost feeling sorry for Theresa May. I do think she was an absolute fool to take on the poisoned challis of Brexit negotiations, and then took a pointless risk calling the GE, but it can't be nice to be regarded as basically a lame duck. I bet she doesn't sleep very well at the moment.
Oh well it could be worse, the opposition is a complete shambles

Maybe, but they've done pretty well with the hand they were dealt. The opposite of May's achievements.

Yup. Time to reform the liberal party and march to centrist glory.

If we're bringing back the spirit of Asquith then, at the risk of Al labelling me a hypocrite, Helena Bonham Carter would certainly get my vote (y)

A fool for taking it on and Boris shrewd for letting her at that juncture. He's waiting in the wings, completely unsackable. Don't think it'll be too long now until May is put out of her misery. I'd be very surprised if she makes it past next summer. Don't think she was wrong to a GE, just that she had a rubbish campaign, was arrogant and caught the mood completely wrongly.

Hammond is a busted flush as is Patel & Fallon (obviously). Rudd has too small a majority in her own seat (and is aligning with Boris, allegedly). May's choice of Gavin Williamson is not PM material. David Davis is too old.

I'd still reiterate that the chances of Boris making it onto the ballot paper are slim at best. I wouldn't yet count Patel as a busted flush, although she also may struggle to make it onto the ballot paper she retains quite a lot of popularity within the party which may have actually hardened as a number thought her quite harshly dealt with (more in the media than by the party).

Not sure where you got that Rudd is aligning with Boris - they can't stand each other (again allegedly).

Do you not think the party would put up with Boris if they thought he would win an election?

"The Party" certainly would, the MPs, not so much.

Got a feeling that May will fall on her sword when talks with the EU break down, which they surely will. Hopefully that will bring about another general election, whereupon the public will opt for a radical socialist Jeremy Corbyn led government, unfettered by tiresome EU rules which would probably have made most of his policies illegal had we not voted to free ourselves from their grasp.

Is Jeremy Hunt in with a chance of replacing May? He seems to relish a scrap (with student doctors for instance) and recently changed his mind about Brexit, saying he was now in favour, which I thought may have been quite a calculated move...
