The next 48 hours is where it's at. Or not, for us, considering.

January is always a tough month to recruit in but this year it seems particularly bad.

I wonder if FFP is having an impact throughout the pyramid? The big clubs don't want to spend and therefore aren't selling/loaning players like they normally would. It's all one big domino effect that usually all kicks off on the last day.

I think that is having a part effect throughout the transfer window. Another is that the market, in particular for strikers seems to be even more over inflated than normal. If you look at Luke Armstrong for example, a decent L2 striker, going for somewhere around £250k (some say more, some say less) then that will bump up what other EFL and NL clubs will be asking. When you have a hot striker, Jake Young for example, then the asking price becomes prohibitive for a lot of L1 clubs. I would expect Newport after yesterday will really being trying to cash in on Will Evans who has more going for him than those two even if he is becoming out of contract, if they want to sell at all. I suspect the likes of Wrexham have skewed this a bit as well.

It could well be a reason, apart from familiarity, why we are looking in the Scottish market more. We have always had to look for value in the market and that hasn't really changed even with an unprecedented (for us) budget.

Its actually more like 80 hours as I think the window closes on Thursday evening not Wednesday lunchtime.

I expect to see that Nouble chap being announced on Thursday if our other targets can't be sorted before then.

It closes at 11pm on Thursday 1st February in England, and midnight on 1st February in Scotland so I have no idea what that means for us if we sign a player from a Scottish club!

It means we have to sign the player (or have a deal sheet in) by 11pm on Thursday. If a Scottish club is signing a player from us it would have be done (or deal sheet) by midnight.
