Is that the same 'fast becoming a dead ball specialist' Mark Cooper? Presumably his speciality being blazing it over the bar and nowhere near the goal.

Not sure whether this was in answer to my post... If so, I refer you once again to his scoring record which was impressive....He may have missed a lot but he scored a few too.

He might have (I don't recall ever seeing him score that many), but I doubt many were free kicks.

The only one I remember him scoring was against us, oh and one at Reading which should have stood but didn't.

Incredibly lazy player, whose scoring record is okay, but when you take into account most of the time he showed no effort, and most of his "tackles" were fouls. Hugely over-rated.

Bit unfair in my opinion.....He had a decent scoring record for a midfield player and averaged a goal every 3 or 4 games. Have we had one since? probably, bur very rarely...
I know it's damn lies and statistics and all that, but he averaged fewer than a goal every 4 games for us and throughout his league career - he scored well in non-league at the end of his career but not so well at league clubs. Anyway, scoring record, schmoring record, I didn't rate him, you did, fair enough. I could agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong ;)

He scored over 30 goals in about 140 games which is not far off 1 in 4 and to balance it off he scored 9 in 30 for Hartlepool which is almost 1 in 3.... I know its all about opinions but bearing in mind our recent track record with "goal scoring" midfielders has been decidedly average, I think Coops was above average by a margin...

Mark Cooper is however very good at PR - about himself. When appointed at Notts County in March they said he would keep the job if he hit a points target in the remaining games.

When he left he (and an incurious press) proclaimed loudly that he'd decided to go down from a Football League club to a Conference club, of his own volition , having met the points target. There seemed an element of protesting this rather too much.

Hmmm. His managerial record at Notts County was, according to Wikipedia, P10 W3 D2 L5. So he lost half his games, with a points average of 1.1 per game - the sort of form that , reproduced over a season, means relegation or a near miss relegation battle. A surprisingly unambitious target for a club like Notts County to have set.

Yeah I know, I was just pointing out that 1 in 3, which coops didn't get, is much better than 1 in 4.5 which he got. He was an average player for us who got a few goals. He would probably come around 40th in my "who was my favourite city midfielder" list, if he was lucky.

Many of the games I saw him play he was nominally "up front" rather than in midfield. Although this meant he stood 40 yards from goal picking his nose rather than on the centre spot.

Backing Gary Caldwell, thanks Matt and good luck.
Saw him get a goal against argyle with a neat flick. Sadly we lost three two.
