Well it could happen but I just can’t see MK having the funds to sign him. The only way they could would be if he has a low release clause in his contract...
He is still under 3 year contract so they would have to not only meet the release clause but also pay us the 2 years salary and whatever fee we agree.

You said it’s a worry. It’s not, you’re just thinking up hypothetical situations to get worried over. If he goes, he goes, there are far richer clubs than ours in this division so if the right money comes along off he goes, but that’s football.

It would be a surprise if there were no enquiries about Stockley. Let's hope he is on a three-year deal, as he's 24.

Paying 100k plus for Stockley, we must have got him on a 3 year deal, anything less would have been commercial suicide.

If he does have 2 years left on his contract the ball is in our court, we can sell him for a fee which we are happy with or we can get 2 more years out of him and probably 20 goals a season if he remains relatively injury free.

Backing Gary Caldwell, thanks Matt and good luck.

All any club would have to do would be to offer a fee we either agreed to , or to meet a release clause, and agree terms with the player. They wouldn't need to pay us the 2 years salary, the fee in a transfer compensates for that.

As long as there isn't a low release clause in the contract we are in a strong position , and imo should be asking a minimum of a million. 20 plus goal strikers aren't easy to replace, and even with 1m we would likely only get a third of that to ensure we aren't left with a weaker squad. Ideally every time we sell we need to invest to make our squad stronger, ie two quality players in for one quality player out and balance that with releasing / loaning out lesser players if the squad size grows too much.

Stockley would be mad to leave city for MKdons. We have signed some quality additions while MK have lapped up our rejects. Apart from losing JMT, who was injured most of last season anyway, they haven't signed any where near the quality we have. Our midfield is quality and with a partner like Forte, Stockley will be banging them in here over the next season and could easily earn himself a huge deal after the season has ended.

If Stockley was leavivg for MK, then he would have gone by now.

I suspect Matt Taylor is learning what all previous managers have found, it's not easy to lure players down to the nethermost area of the country. Although our remoteness does mean we have a large area to draw youth from it's not easy to find those necessary established quality players that you need for a balanced side. Tisdale's solution was to scout players that already knew the club or the area and also to have a kind of base camp in Bristol/Bath area where players and staff could commute from.

Not ideal but it did allow us to draw in and keep some quality players that otherwise might have opted to play elsewhere. Should we, as a community club insist that players and staff live in Devon or perhaps continue the travelling squad idea?

I cant imagine for a nano second we would have signed a player for a record sum, given him a 3 year deal but inserted a low release clause. I guess 'low' is subjective but I wouldn't imagine release clauses (aside from a certain ex capt) are anything you would see very often at L2 level.
