In this situation it is less good than with Ampadu. If he leaves now compensation is determined by a formula (EPPL?)based on the category of our academy and the number of years the lad has been with us. The money is peanuts; someone else will be able to do the figures but it is likely to be somewhere around 60k upfront. That is why Ampadu staying until his academy spell was over enabled us to get non- formula compensation and over a million. So all pretty depressing.

However the one hope is that this lad is intelligent enough to understand that Premiership clubs want players to have League experience. And that the City youngsters who have had the best careers are those (Watkins, Grimes,Friend,Moxey,Storey,Ampadu to a degree) who have stayed and played for City’s first team. Contrast the likes of Goss and Ellis who moved as academy players and never established themselves as regulars in the top two divisions

Given this it really does make you wonder what is the point of ploughing money into an Academy if not only do we rarely if ever see the products of same play any first games in a City shirt but they disappear leaving us getting paid a pittance for our efforts.

We have to sell players to pay the chairman his £20,000 wage increase.

Can we not afford a scoreboard that would make money.

How many players will be on a free if we don’t go up ?

Oops we are worrying about a young player that we will give away as we are good at doing that at the club.
Did you take lessons in being a berk or does it come natural to you?

As the current very healthy financial position is attributable primarily to the Academy production line I cannot see you are right here SB.

it’s amazing that if you have a different opinion then you’re a multi or a troll.

Happy clapping doesn’t bring success.

I'd ask which bit are YOU actually struggling to understand Danny. The contract, or lack of, situation has been explained so you should now understand that the club do not deliberately give young talent away. So, understanding that, perhaps you'd answer RM's question? If YOU were running the club how would you ensure the talented academy lads stayed at the club when they have premiership clubs whispering in their ear and also their parents ears. Enlighten us do.
