I met him in 1983, when the Young Ones were touring. Interviewed them for the Sheffield Poly magazine called Sheffield City Press. Funny to think that twenty years later he would be a City fan. Rik Mayall talked a lot but he didn't say much. To be fair, my questions were pretty hopeless.

You should have done. Several of my friends have had pics with him. He'll always find time for City fans if he's asked, but is no billy big bollox and is always lost in the crowd. It's that in particular that, for me, makes him so likeable.

You asserted he wasn't that famous in his own right, a number have responded that he is and added that having met him he comes across as a normal bloke, and so this leads you to believe that there are a number of jealously possessive groupies on here? Never met the guy... I'm sure he's a devoted City fan and a nice guy but to deny that there is more than a little "fawning" is a bit rich.....
