Next Up: Fleetwood Town Away

After a disappointing result against newcomers Newport last week, City face a tough trip to another set of relative newcomers in Fleetwood. New signing Danny Butterfield will expect to slot straight into the line-up, plugging the troublesome hole at right back, which should allow Pat Baldwin to move back into the centre. Sam Parkin missed the defeat last week and will hope to parkin_bennethave shaken off his knock in time to play.

Fleetwood enter the match in buoyant mood having secured four straight victories in all competitions, and Graham Alexander’s Codmen are thus living up to their pre-season billing of promotion contenders, currently sitting in second place in the table. Bankrolled by local businessman Andy Pilley, Fleetwood have money to burn and this is reflected in a squad brimming with quality such as Jeff Hughes in the middle of the park, Junior Brown on the wing and Jamille Matt up front. If need be Alexander can call on fleetwood_thumb“The Beast” aka Jon Parkin from the bench. Matt is the top scorer in all competitions with four goals so far, followed by Hughes and Antoni Sarcevic on three apiece.

Given Fleetwood’s rapid ascent up the leagues, last season saw the first contests between the sides, and both ended in draws – a thrilling 2-2 (Cureton, O’Flynn pen) at the Park, and a 0-0 draw at Highbury (not that one).
