Equally bamboozled as well. Certainly not in my collection. I did wonder if the black and white (flooring ?) indicated a "Two Tone" band but the only seven letter option that I could come up with was Madness and they didn't fit the bill either !

It's a well know British band from Birmingham.

Lead singer was in two other well known bands and has had a good solo career too.
You'll find his name in the clue already given ...

Is it connected to Roy Wood (or Would in your clue)?
He’s from Brum and was in The Move and ELO previously.
The band in your answer could be Wizzard.
We saw him play at The Robin 2 in Bilston a few years ago.
It was a fun evening with him playing songs from all those eras.
If it is him I don’t know any of his albums though but I think you maybe trying to ‘steer’ us towards a driving theme?
