The other issue is that the Harrogate game is our game in hand and we rarely seem to take advantage of games in hand.
How do you think we waltzed our way to the 4th Division title. Because of what happened in the cup competitions we had games in hand nearly all the time or at least it certainly seemed that way especially with the amount of mid week home games.

I was thinking of more recent history like, for example, last season.

After Hartlepool, Tranmere are due to play Vale, Newport, Northampton and Mansfield in consecutive games so in theory we have a great chance over the next few weeks to catch up with them.
Not just catch up, but leave them in our wake as we chase down the Vegans 👋

Feels a lot like 1963/64 when we ended up with Played: 46 Won: 20, Drew: 18, Lost: 8, Goals For: 62, Goals Against: 37 - promoted 4th

one big difference between 1964 and 2022 is that finishing 4th in 1964 got City automatic promotion; in 2022 it would give us a place in the play offs!

Does anyone know if the 4 up, 4 down between what is now L1 and L2 (albeit with playoffs to take teams up from the fourth tier) a legacy from the old regional third divisions?

I think it is a "legacy" only in that the 4 teams up and down system was introduced as part of the change to replace the regional third divisions with a third and fourth division.

Groan. Heaven forbid we have to go through that again.

Two home wins this week should leave us in the Autos come Saturday teatime and that should give the confidence we can go on and stay there

The run of games following those two is quite tricky tho............

Another night where the results have fallen right for us, sees us move up to third (the Autos! End the season now (if you're Plimuff Argiggle that is)) now on 53 points, and continuing our unbeaten league run to six wins in eight, with us not having conceded in six of those matches . We have the second best goal difference in the division with positive 15 and if the season were to end today on a points per game basis we would move up to second and Tranmere down to fourth. We are only two points behind Tranmere with two games in hand.

The question we are now asking ourselves is "is it possible to catch the Vegans". We both have played 30 matches and they are currently 13 points ahead of us, which is quite a challenge, however they do not appear to have had the customary blip, which most teams expect to experience sometime during a season, yet! We won't have a say in that having already played out to goalless draws with them but they do have to play a number of teams in the challenging pack as do we, so if their blip comes in and we continue as we are then anything is possible, but don't expect too much this Saturday unless Walsall can continue with their sacked manager bounce. Other matches involving the pack are:-

So not many matches between the top ten but don't be surprised at a couple upsets possibly at Salford and Newport beating in form Mansfield, So as the table stands I would hope (anticipate) that we will still be in third by 5.00 on Saturday.
