As regards the 1% NHS pay rise, expect another screeching U turn.

If the government is worried about a higher % offer as it sets a target to be used in later years there is a simple solution. A one off lump sum bonus and make it tax free to basic rate workers
And as the sane and rational Jeremy Hunt has pointed out, it makes no economic sense. The NHS is understaffed, and paying £5 billion per year to agencies. Simple labour market economics dictates that the price of NHS labour should rise because there's a shortage of it. Compare and contrast to another "heroes" pay dispute a few years ago - the Firefighters' case for a huge pay rise (to offset their reduced earning opportunities because of the 48 hour week Working Time Directive) was slightly undermined by the fact that there were people queuing up to join the Fire Service

As I said on another thread, the NHS is dependent on the recruitment of overseas nurses (17% of the nursing workforce in 2019). I am surprised that the Brexiters and Great British patriots are not supporting a massive wage increase for nurses.

The way the Daily Mail has pursued Johnson all week over the expensive, mysterious refurbishment of the Downing Street flat he shares with his fiancée, Carrie Symonds, is a case in point. The paper senses sleaze and entitlement and does not like what it sees. “No 10 Decor Scandal. Tory HQ Cover-up exposed,” was its headline as it also emerged that more than £2m had been splashed on a fancy Downing Street press centre for televised briefings that have never materialised.

This is just one small example of the abuse of power and entitlement that Johnson is exhibiting.

"The issue of extra government money for Richmond and surrounding areas has been a hot topic – and not just locally – since it was named on budget day last Wednesday as one of the 100 “priority places” permitted to bid for a new Community Renewal Fund, a pot of £4.8bn to support job creation in local economies".

Richmond is Rishi Sunak's constituency. It is far from being a deprived area.

Given the Daily Mail is owned by non-dom Lord Rothermere and offshores most of its considerable profits, I don't set much store by their hypocritical moralising.

"As the Labour leader Keir Starmer noted, there is a related issue of why 40 out of 45 towns receiving money from a separate “towns fund” also unveiled last week are represented by Tory MPs. “I think lots of people would scratch their heads and say ‘what is going on here?’” said Starmer. The Communities Department awarded its secretary of state Robert Jenrick’s Newark constituency £25m to fund projects including the renewal of Newark Cathedral".

You could be sure that Sunak and Jenrick's constituencies would not miss out.
You gotta laugh when the Tories popularity actually increased significantly after the budget was announced. Suckers ...

Richmond is certainly an affluent part of Yaaarkshire.

Does not really make any political sense to bribe this particularly constituency mind as The Dish had a 27,000 plus majority at the last GE.

Excellent deflection, RP ....the way you turned comments about dodgy Johnson into a criticism of the Daily Mail . 😂

It always makes sense to look after your constituents with hand-outs. Insurance for the future, innit?

My point is that the Tories could abuse their own voters in this seat a la facon Trump and still cruise home

Why not bribe in the marginals ?
