The end of the Jurassic Coast.
Saw this crop up on the other thread about the ECFC shirts with poppy's on going on sale on Ebay but thought it was a bit off topic and deserves a thread to itself.

Anyways, as most of you are aware the FIFA have said the England players aren't allowed to wear poppy's on there shirts for the friendly on Sunday...

What a load of...

B*llox if you ask me.

FIFA are saying no to Poppy's what? POPPIES. Not poppy's.

Secondly, what's this got to do with ECFC?

Nothing, other than the fact that City had them embroidered into the shirts they wore on Saturday.

To be fair to FIFA it is not simply the Poppy emblem that the have refused to permit, they do not allow any Charity's emblems etc to be on a team's shirt.

Personally, this particular charity would be the exception to the rule for me.

Unfortunately rules is rules.

The poppy would certainly be counted as a political symbol and, while it does no "harm" to anyone, by allowing it you give credence to other nations to use political symbols on their shirts.

Yup, and it's unequivocally a bad idea to give that credence.

Whilst the rule itself has merit, FIFA's stance would have slighly more credibility if it were shown to be an organisation free from corruption, back-room deals and geo-political backscratching. Alas events in recent years give the opposite impression.

No it wouldn't? That's just an ad hominem against FIFA.

It is but with justification imho.

FIFA and the Executive Commitee that run it are not completely independent from political interference or influence and therefore it does not practice what it preaches.

Just more Daily Mail outrage nonsense.

As mentioned on the radio, how about Ireland wearing green poppies for the IRA combatants that died, Israel wearing something to celebrate their creation etc etc where does it end?
