Exeter Repeat Fair Play Award

For the second season running the Grecians have picked up the League 2 Fair Play Award. They were also the team with the best disciplinary record in the three Football League divisions.

Exeter picked up just 47 yellow cards over the course of the last season, and just a single red – ball_red_yellow_cardstwo feats which none of their divisional competitors could better.  That amounted to just 200 disciplinary points, which was unrivalled across the three divisions. Tom Nichols having the worse record with four yellow cards and one red (earned in the 1-1 draw at home to Morecambe).

This year’s FA Respect Awards ceremony will take place ahead of the Community Shield final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 2nd August, and Exeter City will be represented.

This is the sixth year that The FA have distributed the Respect Awards, where professional clubs, local leagues, grassroots organisations, individuals and County FAs are recognised.  They are designed to help ensure that football is played in a fair, decent and enjoyable environment at every level of the game.ref_stockbridge_thumb

The award carries with it a £10,000 prize fund which can be spent on charitable, football in the community or youth talent development projects of the club’s choice.  Exeter City will consider the best way to allocate this funding in due course and submit their proposal to Greg Dyke, chairman of the Football Association.  A cheque presentation will be made by a representative of the FA at St James Park in the forthcoming season.

A letter from FA Chairman Greg Dyke read:

The award is a considerable credit to how the club demonstrates the ability to play in a very competitive league in a manner which promotes Fair Play and Respect in the game.

That you have won this award for a second year emphasises that this approach has been embedded into the playing culture of your club.
