Manager Paul Tisdale said of the signing on the club website:-

We have needed to add balance and depth to our whole squad – with Scot Bennett and Pat Baldwin leaving, a central defender is something which we have looked at. We have played against him numerous times.

Troy is a very good age and he has had a lot of football for a 24-year-old. At his age, there is a chance to develop and bring him through. For players of his age, they can add to the team and we can add to them.

It is nice to have the opportunity to sign him. It is obviously at the cost of him being at a club that got relegated. Often when a club has a bad time, something crops up – we have always liked him and it has cropped up in the summer with Cheltenham being relegated.

He is athletic, determined, and hopefully he’ll add a balance to the side in his way. With Jordan Moore-Taylor being injured, it gave me more of an emphasis on that signing. It was particularly important for us to sign a defender at this time with Scot and Pat leaving and Jordan being injured.
