Exeter City’s New Financial Crisis
The history of Exeter City is littered with financial problems. With Trust ownership Grecian fans everywhere would have hoped for a better future. Indeed the many supporters of the Trust ownership throughout English football would have hoped that we were on a secure financial footing with proper controls.
However, today (2 June) the Club have issued a statement about their need to have a temporary loan from the Professional Players Association (PFA). No comment as to whether this means there is a player signing embargo in place. Their statement reads:-
As we are all aware, Exeter City AFC Ltd is not owned and funded by any one individual and this means that finances are always stretched and 2013/14 was no different.
However, we have also been adversely affected by match attendances being below expectations and a lower than anticipated uptake of season ticket renewals so the finances in the close season have been under pressure.
As a result, the Club received a short-term, temporary loan from the PFA on Monday 2nd June.
The Trust has not yet issued a statement. Members of the Exeter City Trust who have any concerns should email them to [email protected]
