Former City Defender Billy Jones Joins Gloucester City

Gloucester City yesterday announced that they had signed former Exeter City defender Billy Jones. After being let go by Cheltenham last September Jones signed for the Exiles as injury cover. He played one half against against Exeter City at St James Park last September in Newport County’s 2-o win over the Grecians.

Billy’s last game for County was in November when they beat Hartlepool 2-0 at Rodney Parade.billy_jones_cheltenham_feat

Having played for Cheltenham Town, he’ll return to Whaddon Road but this time for the Tigers. He was ineligible for last night’s game as his international clearance hadn’t come through.

Tiger’s manager Tim Harris said:

I have known Billy for a while and he did extremely well at Newport County recently when he was there on a short term contract to cover an injury crisis.

Billy has played over 300 League games and with us to lose the influential Jack Harris for his ban, he will add not only experience but good quality to the squad.
