St James Road End Wall Collapses

At about 08.15 this morning (Saturday 23rd March), part of the wall behind the away end collapsed, st_james_road_wall_1depositing several tonnes of soil on to the pavement and damaging some of the cars parked in the road. Those cars have now been removed.

With 20mm of rain having fallen on Friday and 82mm so far this month, the wet weather has taken its toll. Similar to the wall collapsing below Exeter College back in November, the wall on St James Road gave st_james_road_wall_2way. The emergency services attended, and used thermal imaging to confirm that no one had been trapped underneath.

The actual terrace has not been affected. Though a full investigation will need to be carried out and establish whether the standing terrace can be open to spectators. The next home game is against Rochdale on Easter Monday. The next large away attendance will be the visit of Cheltenham Town on Saturday 20th April.st_james_road_wall_thumb

No one from the Club is available for comment, as they will have travelled today to Rotherham. An initialĀ  statement should be available on Sunday with a fuller statement next week. The Football League will need to be kept informed.

The ground is owned by Exeter City Council, but the lease for the Club means that we are responsible for repairs. It will be interesting to see if the Council will accept some responsibility.st_james_road_wall_feat
