I always reckon 90% of fans know f all about football and I'm one of the 10%, that is the 10% of the 90% that actually realise they know f all. In other words, which I think is really what the opening post was saying, you can't do anything directly about the opposition, the referee, team selection, wages offered etc but you can up the volume of your support or even turn up at a few more games. Sure, a bit of speculation is fun but you can't possibly have a full enough picture for your ideas to mean anything (Moxey's point) and even if the ideas were sound you expressing them won't make a difference. The proverbial 12th man (I know it's corny) CAN.

Backing our manager like I always have. Geddon Tis
Good thread Al.

The main problem so far as I can see is something that for some god-forsaken reason City tend to do for a short spell every season - abandon the principals of football that we are strongest at (passing, creating space, emphasis on touch and distribution) and just hoof it after three or four passes. Soon enough, we get it back on the ground again and we revert to a higher brand of football, and results improve. The football at the moment is dire because we aren't playing 'ECFC-style' football. I doubt Tisdale is telling them to do it, so it must be a confidence thing, that's why the JPT could be important next month if it helps develop a winning mentality (if we win of course). I hope it changes soon because the standard at present is beyond sh*te.

What winds me up, and is in-built in the second point Al raised, is the financial aspect of the club. We have missed (or maybe just I did amongst the hectic summer I had) yet another opportunity for a family fun day at the club where the kids have stuff laid on, player photographs with the new shirt etc, BBQ going, red square open with some various offers on etc. We haven't had a race night, quiz night, casino night etc for yonks - they were popular enough I believe and raised unbudgeted money for the trust. I'd love to see these sorts of things back on at the club. I know it will improve with Northants Grecian on the BOS as he is a big pusher of it, but I wonder what percentage of City fans have no idea what buy.at is? Gotta be over 50% I'd wager. We could be doing so much more to boost our own infrastructure

Can you not read? I, and the rest of Exeweb, has no idea whether the club has done feck all or not.
Er, no, I can read to a basic level and have some grasp of English Grammar.

Neither I, nor the rest of Exeweb, have any idea WTF Cheesy and his gang have been doing, but a blind man can see that whatever it might have been it most certainly hasn't worked, we are most definitely sailing up Sh*t Creek and watch out, nobody has bothered to bring a paddle.

Unfortunately this disconnect with the fans extends far beyond what DJ has laid out here, these would be simple ways to re-connect and raise much needed revenue, there are other much more far reaching issues which the commercial side of the club simply don't address.

The people that are running our club appear to have no clue how to rectify these problems, imho they are atypical of the HUA individuals that always seem to inveagle their way into positions of power within organisations such as ECFC, they love the status and attention but bring feck all to the party, it's a crying shame that we have finished up with a dozen or so directors but feck all direction.

Doesn't mean they haven't tried though, does it? You - and I - don't have a clue who he's tried to sign, in what positions or what the reason is why it didn't happen.

There is a certain vital spark missing from city at the moment this as much in evidence in the Liverpool game this season as any of our league games.

Compare and contrast that game with our Manure game when we were conference. We had a reckless do or die feel about our club back then, it was as if we expected to win! Remember Ampadu getting stuck in, Flack dribbling through the midfield, Hiley megging Ronaldo as well as the general feel from the crowd. Disrespectful, determined and beligerant, three qualities that saw us rise up the leagues to our present position. Against Liverpool we seemed to stand back and appreciate the premiersh*te quality on show.

Why have we lost that fighting spirit, the spirit that saw us come back from two goals down against Torquay to start our rise? Well actually I think the loss of Matt Taylor may have as much of an effect on our team as the loss of the skillful Harley. That bloke gave 100% for the team, he was a rock and conveyed a feeling of solidity and will to win to the team.

Finances have forced us to rethink and rebuild and a season in the doldrums may give us the impetus to regain that Grecian spirit. Players will emerge from the ranks to rival those great names from the recent past, Edwards, Moxey, Taylor and Friend. It's not who we bring in it's how those players respond and it's up to us to have a bit of patience and give them a bit of encouragement. There are pieces of the jigsaw missing no doubt but I can't see Tisdale accepting failure and eventually we'll come good.

As an aside it's quite funny to read some people on this thread asking why we can't reproduce the marvellous season we had last year when, as I remember it, they did nothing but moan all that season as well!

Should it be the case that they are trying really hard and yet are still this clueless then we are in a worse position than I actually thought, thanks for worrying me even more Moxster.

Sturtz has hit the nail pretty solid, "spiwit, a touch of dawing do" is what we lack as much as anything, too much wimpery and not enough attitude, but of course Cheesy don't do attitude to add to loans, width, pace, power and strikers.

Well if attitude equates to getting booked or sent off we're doing pretty well this season!

In all seriousness though, I haven't seen a player with the will to win like Dunney at the park for a long time and Lenny's battling spirit would knock Paul Jones shy airy fairyness into a c*cked hat.

It doesn't, as you well know judging from your post, attitude is about the right attitude, giving everything you have got for every minute of every game, for your mates on the team, for your manager, for your club, for the fans, for the shirt you are privileged to wear for however long. Someone on the team needs to step up and pull it all together, Noble ain't gonna do it, Dunney, Tulls, Coles and even the Pidge seem to have a bit of it in them, but they aren't the captain, perhaps spiwit is something else we can add to the list of things that Cheesy don't do.
