But what right do they have to be there? Who decided it?

A swift piece of Googling suggests the Bill of Rights (1689) had a lot to do with it. The main priority then being to avoid another Catholic monarch.

The lady of the lake, her arm clad in shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur
Assuming it was the sword and not an empty can of non-alcoholic lager.

As long as it wasn't "Guinevere".
Because, as David Crosby famously sang, she had gr**n eyes! Not welcome here, I fear.

Not many people have asked if I'm OK', says Meghan.

Jesus Christ : can't these people stop whining and hand - wringing.

They have flounced.
I think they have 2 choices:
1. Do the usual royal thing - receive the standard remuneration - accept that there will be some intrusion into their lives - just get on with it and stop whining
2. Renounce their royal titles and live completely independently

I can't help but feel that they want the best of both worlds, which I believe neither the British public nor the British tabloid press
will accept.
Megan Markle surely knew what she was getting into when she married Harry.
I think Harry is a decent bloke but as I say he can't have it both ways
He didn't choose to be born into the royal family and yes, he has experienced tragedy (like many others have), but the advantage of never having to worry about money, medical treatment and accomodation is huge. Maybe losing some privacy is a price he has to pay.
So I would respect his right to total independence as long as he doesn't use the family name for financial gain. And he must lose his titles.
