Would make sense. Or he was given peanuts initially with the idea that he'd take it, prove himself, and get a proper deal... But there's a bit of debate about what kind of increase he's shown himself to be worth?

Maybe the club wanted a ‘Watt‘ kind of contract where a further year is put into it (Watt’s contract didn’t state if it was the player or club deciding if a further year would be added?)…which means if we are relegated we could pull the plug?
