I can only think of three examples-

Last season when Wheeler left, but we got in Stockley and Boateng and finished fourth.

Ten years ago we lost Mackie in January and Exeweb went into meltdown on deadline day with no replacement signed, but we went on to get promoted.

In 89-90 we lost Dazza to injury (in March?) but finished as Champions with the likes of Ben Rowe and Richard Young coming to the party.

There must be other examples where things didn’t turn out well, but it is not necessarily all doom and gloom....

Tom Nichols left mid-season in 2015/16, replaced by Jayden Stockley (they finished the season with ten league goals each for us). We finished 14th in the end, which was near enough where we were when Tom went to Peterborough.

Season 93/94 Ronnie Jepson 16 goals in 22 appearances. December 93 joined Huddersfield Town transfer fee £70K. Whisper it but not the best of omens as City were relegated at end of season.

Considering we're on more than double the points of the bottom two (at beyond the half-way point of the season), I think things would have to go pretty atrociously for us to go down.

There was outrage when Tisdale failed to show any interest in bringing in a new striker (or was there a speculative and never gonna happen, offer for Constable from Oxford?) It was our own Stanno who stepped up to the plate that memorable season.

Mackie went to Slime for £150k, at last Stockley hasn't put us through that crap, not that our green chums could afford him anyway!

Although we lost our star player Christian Roberts late in the previous season to Bristol City...failing to replace him before it was too late in 2002/03 with Sean Devine went a long way to costing us our league status...Roberts with 11 goals in 2001/02 coupled with his searing pace were enough to see us safely in mid table that year.
