Re: The Conference thread

Why such at poor crowd at the final, 18k that's all. Would have expected Luton to take 20k by themselves
Tickets at £42 a throw may have been a factor?

Yep...That is steep. The sooner that the football authorities realise that the average supporter have not got bottomless wallets the better.....

It looks like many just payed the £7 to Premier Sports rather than pay for expensive travel & a OTT ticket price..& who can blame them.

Re: The Conference thread

Wimbledon beat Luton?

Great news, does this mean that there is another trust run league club?

Always liked their supporters, remember when they played us in the FA cup, when we were non league but AFC a lot lower?

Seem to remember their coach broke down and by the time they arrived at SJP Wimbledon were 2 : 0 down, they looked so sad filing in, dressed as Wombles with about half an hour togo before a long journey home. They deserve their success.

Re: The Conference thread

I don't have a problem with MK Dons as such, but I have a massive issue with the FA for allowing them to effectively steal Wimbledon's league status, and Winkleman as the 'mastermind' behind ripping a club from it's community.
Yes,the FA did allow the move...Merton Council were also very unhelpful to Wimbledon FC,hence their nomadic wanderings for the last decade of their existance. They were not in their natural community in those years(as they are not now,it has to be said)

On a similar vein. There is talk of Kettering moving to Rushden & D in a merger..Rushden are potless & Kettering will be without a gound in 2012....Anymore news on this from our local correspondent...ahem... Mr Northants..???

Re: The Conference thread

The price of tickets for the play off final have been released. The principle of ripping off your punters continues. Cheapest tickets will be £36 with child tickets costing £18 and no other concessions available. Add on a £3 booking fee and a £2.25 postage charge and you're up to £41.25. Maybe, your hard core fan might be prepared to pay this, but any hope of attracting the day-trippers in the hope of making Eastlands look semi full has gone. Recession, what recession?
Wembley maybe able to command such a premium, but not Eastlands. Serious c*ck up by the Conference bosses. The stadium looked embarrassingly empty, should have been loads more there. No casual day-trippers.

I don't think you could 'pay on the day'

I meant in how we described the mysterious 20,00 that turned up and watched us at Wembley the first time. Turning up and paying at the gate, now that would be a novel idea, never catch on though!

Ahh Yes see what you mean now..

Paying on the gate/day seems to be extinct at most Stadiums unfortunatly....Even for the FA Vase Final recently & the FA wonder why the crowds for that game is getting lower & lower each season....Gawd help English football...

David Conn's original 2002 article in the Independent. Still worth a read.
