What do you think I am opposed to ?
Large scale immigration. Perhaps I'm wrong?

But surely we don’t need immigrants Tavy? Wasn’t that the mantra I.e. Farridge standing in front of the poster?

Ironically a lot of those Europeans exercising their freedom of movement rights worked in our NHS. Wonder why we’re now so short staffed and waiting lists are at record highs?
Sorry I don’t remember that ‘golden period’ of the NHS staffing courtesy of EU freedom of movement and it’s the COVID hangover thats seen as the catalyst for our waiting list backlog apparently.
Speaking personally I’d much rather have the controllable aspect of work visas with its incumbent NHS surcharge than EU FOM with everyone able to access healthcare from the get go at no charge.

Those ‘millions of Europeans’ were net contributors to the UK coffers, that’s a fact. Generally fitter, younger and much healthier than the economically unproductive ‘hundreds of thousands of Brits’ washed up on the Costas back then.
It was a mixed picture actually as the unskilled immigrants especially from Eastern Europe were in fact a net drain on our resources.
The current situation however is much more preferable if you’re interested in the viability of the UK coffers as you seem to be.
£7BN is not to be sniffed at in these straightened times is it Elgy? 😎

I have never opposed legal immigration if it fills our specific needs that we cannot fill ourselves.

What does not make sense to me is to pay people who could work state benefits and importing people to do the jobs instead.

If you tell me our own people do not have the right skill sets the answer is that we need to develop those skills. A start could be made by getting rid of the preposterous policy of sending too many young people to university to do utterly useless courses.

Maybe the penny is dropping as this ludicrous course is no longer being offered at my old Uni next year

It's a 48 hour module with a fairly good reading list.
Stand up comedy is big business nowadays.
Writing, editing and performing skills are transferable.

Plus I like their re-working, in reverse, of the structure to the Monty Python 'Spanish Inquisition' sketch.

Certainly not. Ironically, that’s the same amount the nation’s grocery shoppers have already paid in Brexit costs. When full trade barriers finally go up by the end of this year, that figure should rise significantly. Unless they delay the purist’s Brexit for the 6th time and counting ! 😂

Those coming in on Health and Care Worker Visas are exempt from the Surcharge.

Ending free movement has caused shortages in specialisms within the NHS and the supply of social care workers.

Yep, I’m aware of the professions with an exemption.
On your second point isn’t any shortage of staff to deal with the waiting lists a symptom of the COVID hangover not the cause?

Don’t be lazy art. Put it in the calculator yourself. You will need the postcode.
£84.80 plus support towards paying my council tax and housing benefit to pay my rent. So I have £12 a day to spend. This will keep me in booze, fags, sky sports subscription, food, clothing, personal hygiene products, travel costs etc etc.

The life of Riley indeed. Why should I bother to go to work when the state will keep me such luxury? You're quite right Al - there are far too many lazy feckers around who expect the state to support them rather than go to work. Take away their £12 a day - that'll show 'em
