Your reply doesn't pick up my post due to it being a quote within a quote.

I appreciate the predictions at the start and the end figure were not one and the same. 'Twas ever thus, though, about government forecasts - the previous lot (i.e. 97-10) didn't get a single one anywhere near right.
Which is very much the point I was making. IIRC the Coalition 's objective was to eliminate the structural deficit over the 2010/15 Parliament whilst Alistair Darling thought it could be halved.

Lest we forget the "structural deficit" did not equal "the deficit".
