I watched the episode of Air Crash Investigation which covered that incident just a couple of days ago. A tremendous example of professionalism by Eric Moody and the crew that prevented a major catastrophe.

A very British statement to the passengers too.

RIP

Sad news.

He has been very ill for some time now.

A fundamentally decent and principled man who fought poverty, discrimination and injustice all his life but at the same time his approach was always a practical one and he respected our institutions so long as they worked fairly.

If all MP's had some of his qualities the House of Commons would be a much better place.

Quite rightly tributes are coming in for him across the political spectrum.

RIP

Had one of the safest seats in the country for 40 years . Always seemed like a right weirdo whenever he was wheeled out to be a 'talking head' on TV

Very sad news - a man of genuine integrity and decency, who always fought for what he believed was right, often on a bi-partisan basis (and which meant he had friends across the political spectrum). The treatment he received as a result of the "kinder, gentler politics" was nothing short of scandalous.

The Reader's Digest.
Apparently has faded away almost unnoticed.
A throwback to the days when books, as well as milk, could be condensed.
And "laughter really was the best (and, for some, the only affordable) medicine".
Notorious for it's monthly "prize draws" when everyone was a "guaranteed winner"....of a nicely printed form inviting you to pay for an annual subscription.

I read this work only when in the waiting room at the dentist or doctor. The word power page by Peter Funk was mildly interesting.
