Regardless of whether we ever get a penny more for Grimes or not, it puts our club in a positive light. Shows that our players have the ability to move up the leagues, and perhaps puts us in a stronger negotiating position when clubs come sniffing.

Another great performance from Matty today away at reading. Getting better and better under Potter.

Yes, and Potter plays a formation and style that really suits Matt (and vice versa) . It is a 4-2-3-1. The front four are explosive attacking players. Matt plays on the left of the 2 and basically runs the game/keeps them ticking over from there and also screens in front of the back four. This explains why he isn’t normally in shot when they score!

There was a feature interview in the Football League paper a week ago, saying all the expected positive things. Matt had decided to give his Swansea career one last go, despite an attempt to entice him away from an entirely predictable source!

Reminds me of how Grimes ran the show when ECFC played Cambridge

Apparently Everton are interested in Matt Grimes. Did we negotiate a sell on fee on this transfer?

I believe not, we traded sell-on for the maximum fee.

He won't be the only one of our former players to attract attention from bigger clubs. I wonder how many will end up in the Premiership next season.

Agreed.

I think a really smart piece of business would be for someone like Bournemouth to buy Jordan Storey and loan him back to Preston for next season. His value is only going to rise and another full season in the Championship will do him good. Could very possibly become the first £20m product of our academy at this rate.

Would be really pleased for him if he secured a move to the likes of Everton. Then if he performs well at PL level who knows he might even add some full caps to his total of 16 won at U20 and U21 level. Perhaps even prove to be the creative midfield player which the current England team still lacks.

Ollie Watkins a little off the boil at present but if he recovers his form moves and shows he can perform at PL level two ex City Academy lads playing together for England would really hit the headlines. Unlikely maybe but with Gareth Southgate’s refreshing approach to his job as England Manager certainly not an impossibility.
