Can anyone recommend any good real ale pubs within the city centre for pre/post match drinks tomorrow?

Cheers

The Rusty Bike near Exeter Central station (up by the prison) is fairly good out of term time.

Our own Red Square (behind our new grandstand) is welcoming to visitors, and plenty of room outside if its not raining. A decent pint of St Austell's Tribute is available. Plus some nice bottled beers and ciders.

The Well House tavern in the cathedral green serves a lot of real ales.

The Old Fire House - just down from the old Debenhams building on New North Road. But they won't allow any colours - ECFC or away.

Exeter City centre is surprisingly compact, close to the ground, and there are loads of decent pubs, as evidenced from the varied recommendations already. Depends on what you want from a hostelry, I suppose.

No real the-sawdust-is-last-night's-furniture pubs, but the usual women-in-micro-skirts-p*ssed-by-10pm places near the junction of Fore Street and South Street, three Wetherspoons (one near St Davids Station) and any number of traditional locals.

Lots of good ales from local breweries too, including Otter, Cotleigh and other smaller ones. Personally I don't like Sharps (Cornish) but others do.

I assume you won't have transport but if you do some of the surrounding village pubs and those in Topsham (a short train ride, 3 miles away) are quieter and more relaxing.

Shouldn't we be keeping quiet about the really good ones? ;)

What is the away pub on Well Street now called?

Well Street Tavern, isn't it? used to be the Brook Green in my day, John Newman was always in there with several drinks in him...
