Ribiero looks class when he's running at players and often put the opposition's winger on the back foot, IMO playing him at CB is a complete waste.
Further adding weight to the argument that although it's a given he's decent getting forward, he isn't actually that red hot as a defender, which is why he's here in the first place.

He made a couple of great last ditch challenges at Pompey on Saturday but his positioning as a CB is questionable at best. Then again what do you expect from a lad who is playing out of position? This isn't a dig at Ribs as when i've seen him playing FB/WB he has looked a different player, Dagenham away being the prime example.

Playing in a back 3 allows him some more scope to go forward than playing in the centre of a back 4. Him and Davies seem to work well together, with Davies the brain, ribs the brawn.

But just puts a full stop to City's best wide attacking option. Play 4-4-2 with Ribs and Wheeler down the right. The oppositions left side wouldn't know which way is up with those two flying down the line at the line at them. It would be like watching a quicker version of Sir Scott and Macca.

I don't think Ribs should play in the centre of any defence. Sorry for sounding like a broken record but sticking a player who has pace, flair and the ability to run past people at CB baffles me. Although it may be a case of Tis thinking we simply don't have anyone better to play there.

He has looked ok defensively when playing as a right back, and can then get forward and provide some much needed width.

Thought Oakley did alright as a makeshift centre back to start with, but has been found out lately. I thought McAllister was supposed to be a centre half, but don't think he's played there yet? Until we change to a back 4 and play players in their best positions I can't see things improving.

Not really. Against Pompey He had a good game at CB with JMT, and saved us a few times covering with his pace. If Oakley had covered the gap left by Davies as was his job, Ribs would not have had to sprint 20yds to try and recover the situation before conceding the missed penalty. Positioning was fine, too many times the CBs were let down by tired or cheating midfielders. Anyone at the game could see that All their chances came from midfield not marking runners, resulting in shots from edge or outside of box. However, in our squad he is wasted at CB, when he is one if our best options for getting at teams and driving them back. With players like Reid coming to SJP on Sat, expect to see him at CB again.
