The Key booking was ridiculous, but I have no problem with the Sweeney booking. It's no good Exeter fans moaning about other team's timewasting and then moaning when we get booked for it. I have noticed in quite a few of our games how slow we are to take free kicks and throw ins.
I agree, the referee was quite clear when he booked Sweeney that it was an accumulation of previous time wasting near the gap touchline and down at the opposite corner a few mins before. (Sweeney was arguably unfortunate to be the recipient mind)
Overall I thought the ref had a fairly good game.

So why did the ref consider it timewasting over the free kick when at no time during the timewasting did the Oldham forward retreat the required ten yards? I’d have been stood there waiting for the guy to move back too, IMO the ref (who I thought was generally pretty good) got that one badly wrong. Mind you, as has been said further up he got little help from his assistant on the Shed side of the pitch.

And the ref then pointed to various points of the pitch to suggest that there had been previous examples of time-wasting. However, I didn't notice them and the ref hadn't made any obvious signs that we needed to speed up.

That was the thing. I hadnt noticed Sweeney or anyone else for that matter, get a warning from the ref for time wasting. So for me, his booking came out of the blue.

I think a throw* in was given the hurry up shortly before which the ref pointed to as justification for the card.

*To caveat that, my memory is terrible and I could be wrong.
