A message from the Holloway family:
We wanted to share with all of you, the news that the donations given in memory of Dacre amounted to an amazing £1,451.73. We all know how much we all thought of Dacre and how many lives he touched, but this far exceeded our expectations; even the funeral director said this is a ‘staggering amount’! It truly is a demonstration of how highly he was regarded. Thank you everyone for your generosity. The money has been divided between two causes very close to Dacre’s heart: The Gurkha Welfare Trust (he was associated with the Gurkhas for nearly 20 years) and of course Exeter City Football Club who he supported for over 45 years! He was determined to see the club survive and passionate about helping it to develop. The Club will receive £725.87 to be used for a specific project(s). The family will shortly be discussing various ideas with the Club, with the aim of making good use of the money in a way that would have made Dacre smile with satisfaction!
In addition and separate to these donations, money was also collected for a memorial tree at the Cat and Fiddle Training Ground. It was a beautiful spring day, a sunny Sunday morning when 60 of his family and friends gathered at Dacre’s Acres to help plant the commemorative Beech tree. Ian Parsons chose to use a Fagus Dawyck Gold, a column-shaped beech with gold foliage in the spring, turning green in summer. Ian and Head Groundsman Clive Pring have done a great job on this and we are very grateful to them for organising everything. As Dacre’s family, we would like to say a big thank you to his ‘wider family’ for making it such a moving and celebratory morning. He is missed so much by so many, so there were many tears, but laughter too. The tree is indeed a fitting tribute to a wonderful person and a reminder of a life extremely well-lived. Dacre’s tree will be looking over his acres for many years to come.
