I'm not so sure David, to ask 1000+ fans to all budge up a bit at the same time is unrealistic, the path behind should have been kept clear. That is the responsibility of the club, not the Leeds fans.
And as an away fan in the said terrace i dont know what pathway you are talking about si it cant be a clear to anyone

I'm quite reassured about this. Seems that the club used common-sense in anticipation of trouble
The fact remains that despite all these arrangements, a serious safety issue was only narrowly averted. It strikes me that we need to review the arrangements, and I'd have like to have seen some commitment in this statement to do that.

(Although, I suppose it's possible we will do this, but are choosing not to announce this for fear of admitting culpability).

There is Nigel, the final paragraph says:

"Together with the police and Devon County Council officers the club will review its matchday procedures this week once all reports have been received and reviewed. "

How weird, that wasn't visible when I first accessed the link. Perhaps the page didn't fully load.

I am not sure that i quite understand this thread. If we are apportining blame, then fine, but so what, if we are discussing work to be done.. great, but this won,t be done overnight. Before the next home game the club should slash the capacity in the away end to a number which means complete safety, even if it is 600 or 700 till proper improvements are carried out in the close season.
I sit in the back of the doble, and had a great view of what was happening.I really don't think it was close to a disaster, there were gates that could have been open, one person with asthma was lifted from the crowd, and others decided to get out of the crushN, but were people near to death??It seemed very similar to the Aldershot game, where to the best of my knowledge,we leaned or did nothing.

I know, it was a near-miss, but it seems more like the Police's fault for delaying fan arrival than the club's fault for re-accommodating visiting fans into the away end, which was my fear, and something that could have landed us in hot water

The area next to the turnstiles don't have a protected walkway, which is interesting.

I think the re-accommodation thing had been overplayed anyway, there weren't that many fans who were escorted around the perimeter.

IMHO, we need to look at voluntarily cutting the capacity by a couple of hundred or so. This time the late arrivals were caused by the Police, but next time it might be caused by something we have little control over, like traffic congestion or by a large contingent arriving from the pub. Whenever this happens, the stewards and Police will struggle to cope when it's a full house.

As you can see the barrier on the right should make it easier for fans to move along.

We seem to have all reached some common ground. Those of us in the ECFC camp are seemingly all prepared to acknowledge that the club and our local police force are primarily at fault for 'causing' the problem, along with fans who brought home tickets. Sorry Rowley, but segregation was brought in for a very good reason - it is very hard to not unveil yourself as a rival supporter in the opposite end, and if you are unveiled then the likelihood is trouble flaring, at SJP at least. To be honest I care not one jot if ER has away fans in the home section often, or if LUFC buy home tickets at every away game, it doesnt make it right.
Nice to see you've forgotten the point I was making about it being ok when you do it at Wolves. Every club does it every week and it's a non point in what happened yesterday. Also when did I ever question segregation? or is this another attempt to deflect the argument?

Once LUFC fans were identified on the bank the club were right to remove them. Those LUFC that stayed were obviously satisfied that they could remain reasonably anonymous and fair play to them. But the club, by the letter of the law, should have just ejected them and told them to do one - whether this was before the game or if they were discovered at any point during the game.
You confuse the law with ticket regulations.

As for the away end, there were LUFC fans leaning on the back fence while the crush was taking place, or maybe just before I cant remember, but there were about 50, all in a row, standing on the walkway blocking it, that was what I meant by creating the plug, every surplus fan was crammed into that one section because moving to the left was impossible.
Well I was stood right at the back of the terrace with my back to the barrier which had the 'walkway' behind it and I can confirm that your statement there is at best misguided and at worst a total lie. I'll give you the benefit of it being misguided as with such a shallow rake not allowing us much of a view left right or forward it may have looked that way looking in.

SOME leeds fans ARE partly responsible, but the club and the Police, our sh*t facilities and our even sh*tter tannoy system are more so. I would like to see a work party doing something down the away end to improve things, I'd volunteer my services if I were available
Just exactly are Leeds fans responsible for?
Your inaudible tannoy?
The aged end?
The poor stewarding?
The poor policing?
The referee not stopping the game?

No..it's for being in a different end according to you.
