2015/16 Playing Budget

After one of the more disappointing opening games of the season, during the car journey back home talk turned to our playing budget for the season.

We've lost:
Noble, Davies, McAllister, Morrison, Nicholls, Ribeiro, Oyeleke & Hoskins

Oakley and Butterfield also moving to coaching staff positions (allegedly).

Ins:
Sweeney, TAH, James, McAlinden & Simpson

There'll be some movement in wages from those on new terms, but surely our playing budget must currently be less than last season, which given the continued Grimes money, the Nichols money, the Sunderland and Liverpool money, seems ridiculous.

We still desperately need a RB (Sweeney is clearly a centre-half from yesterday, and a fairly decent one at that), and I'd say a CM (Noble...). There must be money somewhere, but as ever we're stuck with a stubborn Tis and co, or am I totally missing something?

Yes, you're missing the obvious. We're no longer a professional football club, we're an academy that uses the proceeds of the first (in name only) team to support it. The academy comes first these days, the first (in name only) team is very much a secondary consideration.

Isn't it obvious that we overspent last year so we've had to reign it in this year. We did it in our first season back in league 2, didn't go straight back up and then the football kept getting steadily worse.

That and as Ant says, it appears of little importance how well the first team do.

Not at all. You seriously think this club puts the first team first these days?

It doesn't even put the stadium development above the Cat and Fiddle development. Both Club Boards clearly need to get a grip of the situation or get out!

Of course it doesn't - where do the academy train and play?

The scary thing is we was crap last year with a better side than we've got now...

Woodman right back & Oakley coming on to reverse a 2-0 score line ? Good lord...

I genuinely can't understand how Wheeler isn't in the starting 11 he's a million miles
Better than half of the rest

Backing Gary Caldwell, thanks Matt and good luck.
Agreed, appreciate that windfalls need to be split to include academy improvements and to increase club funds in case cash flow dips, but a third of what we made from cups and Nichols sale should imo have gone into the playing budget. That way we have a better chance of making more money through home gates, cups and future player sales.

I don't want us to spend what we don't have, but if we struggle we will probably lose money, and the response to that is normally to cut the playing budget. while I hope we will eventually profit from Watkins and possibly others, we can't rely on another grimes type windfall to bail us out.
