Lee Holmes Joins to Boost Exeter’s Play-off Ambitions

Exeter City have announced that they have completed the signing of Lee Holmes on loan from Preston North End. The 27-year-old, will be a Grecian until the end of the 2014/15 campaign. He’ll be part of the squad for the Stevenage game tomorrow night.next_up_stevenage

Holmes started his career at Derby County after coming through their youth ranks. He made his debut on Boxing Day 2002 at home to Grimsby in a 3-1 defeat in a League 1 game, coming on as a substitute. He made 53 appearances for Derby County, and spent time on loan at Swindon, Bradford and Walsall before joining Southampton in 2008. His second appearance for the Saints was in a 3-1 Carling Cup win over Exeter City where he scored the opening goal.

The midfielder made 43 appearances for Southampton and had loan spells at Swindon and Oxford, then in 2012 made a permanent move to Deepdale. He’s made 75 appearances for Preston, and this season spent a short spell on loan at Portsmouth.

His first team appearances amount to 247 games and in that time he’s scored 17 goals. He earned 15 yellow cards in that time, with no sending-offs.

Holmes has made 75 appearances for the Lilywhites since arriving at Deepdale from Southampton, scoring six times.

He has struggled to make much of an impact on Simon Grayson’s first team this season however making only one appearance, that from the bench, against Port Vale in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
