Dean Moxey to Leave Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace have announced that their defender Dean Moxey has been released. Born in Exeter Dean Moxey played 196 times for the Grecians, scoring 27 goals. He made his début as a 17 year old away to Accrington Stanley coming on in the 74th minute to replace Chris Todd.

Moxey moved to Championship side Derby County in July 2009, reputedly for £350k and made 58 appearances for the Rams. Crystal Palace  took him in January 2011 and he helped them to get promoted at the end of the 2012/13 season to the Premiership. When Tony Pulis took over as manager, his appearances lessened.dean_moxey_feat

The Palace statement said:-

Long-serving defenders Dean Moxey and Jonathan Parr will both depart SE25, having racked up over 100 appearances each for the Eagles during three seasons at Selhurst Park. Both full-backs played key roles in helping the club reach the Premier League last season and went on to make 35 appearances between them in the top flight this campaign.

Crystal Palace Football Club would like to place on record its thanks to these players for their efforts and we wish them all the best in their future careers.

For Exeter City fans, a main memory will be his long-range goal against Doncaster Rovers in the 2nd round of the FA Cup, which helped City win and set up a tie in the 3rd round with Man Utd. He said in the interview afterwards that he was “Happy as Larry”! Here’s a video of that game
