He was in Devon on Monday morning already to sign until Mansfield jumped in at the last moment.

Matt Taylor says on devonlive that Mansfield offered more money and a longer deal. No brainer for Tomlinson.
Not really, how many beaches are within half an hour of Mansfield?

None, but in ten years time when he's got stacks of cash he can sit on a beach in Barbados if he wants...beats Exmouth.

How many times have you heard someone say
If I had his money I could do things my way
But little they know that it's so hard to find
One rich man in ten with the satisfied mind

Once I was wading in fortune and fame
Everything that I've dreamed for to get a start in life's game
But suddenly it happened I lost every dime
But I'm richer by far with the satisfied mind

Money can't buy back your youth when you're old
Or a friend when you're lonely or a love that's grown cold
The wealthiest person is a pauper at times
Compared to the man with the satisfied mind

When life has ended and my time has run out
My friends and my loved ones, I'll leave there's no doubt
But there's one thing for certain when it comes my time
I'll leave this old world with the satisfied mind

He's a dead ringer for Emilio Butragueno.
Re the words : idealistically true, but having no money and being poor is not always fun or satisfying.

I don't think he'd be poor playing for us. I doubt he'd be mega rich playing for Mansfield either.
It's his choice, but it seems that most players that come to play for us love it, and it doesn't seem a problem for the likes of Nicky Law or Eric Kinder to move here from the grim North.

We had apparently offered him a short term deal until the end of the season & then at the last minute Mansfield stepped in & offered him an 18 month deal. Presumably MT could, at this stage, have done likewise, but decided not to. Perhaps he just wasn't that convinced by the player.
Don't blame Tomlinson, but I'm sure it's not the end of the world that he's gone elsewhere. It will be interesting to see how much game time he gets at Mansfield.

Mansfield have signed loads of players in this window.

A guess: John Radford (owner) thinks this season is his best chance for promotion and is betting on one throw of the the dice.

But it's surprising if we only offered a short term contract, agree MT can't have been overwhelmed.

Never before in the annals of football history have so many words been spent on one so unremarkable.
Tomlinson - good luck to you, whoever you are
