what do you think is rubbish?:
I think the poster was referring to an all too familiar dip in form at the crucial moment of the season.

The 1930's was our Golden Era, a 5th place finish in the top tier plus 2 FA Cup Semi-Finals.
And to this day, the highest ever attendance at Old Trafford in one of those semis v Wolves.

Second in Div 3, in August ... we've been here before. As usual, the magnificent Grecian Archive has the details:

I suspect we've been top in August sometime before but it'll be hard to find on the web. Early season tables weren't really a thing in the days of steam trains and old Hovis ads.

Interestingly (and encouragingly) our attendance yesterday was more than double the number that turned up on that occasion - even though that 1980-81 line up was (arguably) amongst the finest in Grecian history.
The scorers alone (Neville, Giles, Delve and Kellow) still bring a touch of nostalgic moisture to this pair of particular ancient Greek eyes.

What a great side that was. I wonder if we may have finished higher that season if it wasn't for a certain cup run!
