What would happen if the moon blew up?

At work last week whilst dodging bats eating moths I got to thinking what would happen if the moon was to blow up, I think their would be no more tides is one outcome which would cripple the restoring of sh*tty old air cooled VW vans and render dead billabong clothing, but what else would happen to the earth?

The History Channel produces a series called The Universe. Series 4 episode 2 tackles this very question.

Aside from the fragments of rock that would fall to Earth causing massive tidal waves and earthquakes, and the tides. The biggest effect would be the slowing down of the Earths spin, meaning longer days.

We'd also get horrific storms, different currents and airflows than exist now and much darker nights.
