How would you explain Australian average seasonal flu deaths also being many times smaller than in Western Europe?
Probably for reasons Jinxy set out.
If it's 100 times less I'd be impressed.

Individual anecdotes aren't useful here. My kids' school is one of the largest secondary schools in the country and there's about 10% of the kids there and not many of the teachers, so does that trump your 25% or not? The fact remains that the schools are open only to the extent that the doors are physically unlocked and a small number of children and teachers walk through those doors, but when we're having a debate about the impact of Covid on the provision of education, constantly claiming that schools remain open and "no children are being prevented from attending school" is unnecessarily pedantic and plainly wrong.
Yes but obviously secondary kids can usually work from home and primary kids can't. So primary schools parents would rather send their kids into the classroom hence the much higher percentage of attendees vis a vis, secondaries. This is a real problem and risks of infection from young children who could not be expected to socially isolate causes huge anxiety for staff.

But Australia is warm. Even during their winter, it dips down to what 15oC. Ergo, they spend a lot more of their time outdoors where it's 30 times less likely to catch an infection than being indoors.

Not only that, when countries started their first wave back in March, they were at the back end of their summer. They then went into their winter, but by that time the badly infected countries were in full lockdown preventing many people travelling to the likes of Auz & NZ.

Now we have a second wave, they are at the height of their summer again. And the badly infected countries have a full lockdown. Are you seeing a pattern yet?

In short, Australia didn't get badly hit basically because they're Australia.

The same story goes much of Africa who similarly haven't been badly affected either, for much the same reasons.
Ok then how do explain why the following countries have lower covid death rates then ours,

Well that's easy. It's a mixture of climate, age of population, population density and travel.

We have shìt weather, an aging population (one of oldest in the world), we're all living in each others pockets (packed trains, buses, tubes), we have some of the world's busiest airports and we all love our holibobs. A toxic brew - little wonder Covid loves us.

A few questions which I would be grateful if you could answer
1) why are Jpapan and Denmark below us in the covid death rate list? They are right there at the top of the oldest populations in the world, are densely populated and have as dodgy weather as we do, especially Denmark, and they have busy airports and like Travelling abroad.

2) if we are uniquely at risk in this country from a perfect storm of covid factors why has the government not acted sooner in locking down again, if someone on exeweb, can easily identify these factors why can't the government?

3)if our nations chartereristics make us especially vulnerable to Covid, why have we not operated a far more severe lockdown as other countries have Eg Australia.

4) if its about travelling? Surely almost all other countries are more at risk from UK citizens than we are from them!!

Very low levels of obesity might be part of the explanation for the figures from Japan.

I suspect the reasons for the various death rates are more complicated than a particular country being more incompetent that another in handling Covid.

I think IBA wants us to blame Boris and the nasty Tories. 🙄

Interestingly, the 5 least competent countries in handling Covid are run by illiberal, nationalistic, right wing populists. Make of that what you will.
