He very probably did. Government Ministers need to be held to a higher account at a higher level than the rest of the people.
Not really a western liberal democratic ideal though is it?

No I didn’t but do now. Could win me a lot of cash in a quiz show (y)

We had a nasty, cantankerous old barsteward who was the woodwork teacher at school. Not you I hasten to add. Spent his time making furniture for his house and taught us very little. Used to throw bits of wood at the pupils.

Faroe Islands looking to reopen most things including schools on 20 April. A vet there has managed to make tests from ingredients used for salmon viruses. Salmon farming is big business up there. As a result they've tested over 10% of the population and barely have any cases now.

Orkney Islands has 4 cases.

The moral of the story? Testing is key and our government is useless as are the scientists. Oh, and to survive the next pandemic, go and live on a small island in the North Atlantic.

With respect, testing 10% of the Faroe Islands - pop 50,000 - is a damn sight easier than testing 10% of the UK, pop 65 million
The 50,000 are spread out across an isolated landscape too

I'm not saying mistakes haven't been made and we aren't behind the curve on this is ridiculous.

Remember under 3 weeks ago, the population/press was demanding to know 'why schools weren't shut', 'why we weren't in lockdown' when deaths were in the 20's and 30's a day
Now, with deaths at 900 odd per day, people want restrictions lifted?

However testing in itself doesn't to me do that much, except the crucial issue of enabling NHS workers who are self-isolating to be either cleared (and therefore go back to work) or confirmed and stay isolated. The key is the test to see if you have had it (without really knowing), and, forgive me if I am wrong, I haven't heard of any country that has got this yet. That's the game changer for lifting restrictions in a significant way.

As for Jenrick, sounds like he was delivering medicines as a family member which is completely allowed. In fact asking 'someone else' to do it, wouldn't be. As long as he left them on the doorstep, no issue. If he popped in for 3 courses and a bottle of vino at the same time, different matter.

Morning RP

I have edited your posts to the points I want to comment on.

Regarding the first paragraph you are right that public opinion and the media forced a change of government policy. Until people actually experience the effect of lockdown they cannot really appreciate what it means and as the wider effects of its consequences are understood and felt, support for it may rapidly dwindle. Public opinion is fickle and a lot of people will start saying is this really the right answer as deaths continue at current levels. The fact that the lockdown recognised this will get lost sight of.

As regards Mr Jenrick, on looking at the guidelines, I agree that it appears he has not broken the rules. Not the same circumstances as the Chief Medical Officer in Scotland. Trouble is though that impressions are important and shroud the facts. Was there not another family member who could carry out the mission ?
