I thought teletext was a path to a brave new world where I could shop and bank remotely via my TV. This was because in 1976 as an A-level student I attended a public lecture at Exeter Uni where I was told that this was the future and the portrayals of it looked a lot like Teletext. I wonder what happened to that concept. :unsure:

France adopted a system that was more telephone based with a display attached.
It used surplus capacity on the phone line rather than extra lines on the TV signal as the carrier.

If the top 40 show on Radio 1 & 2 on Sunday evening was missed, the charts were checked on Ceefax. I’m sure most of us recall all of those songs.

The cast of the sitcom Bread in front of the waterfront in Liverpool, much changed these days.
The late Jean Boht who played Nellie Boswell throughout Breads 7 series(69 episodes) run from 1986 to 1991 is bottom left.

Brian Murphy is 91 today. George Roper in Man About The House(1973-76) & its spin off George & Mildred(1976-79) the latter running for 5 series(a 6th was planned but cancelled due to Yootha Joyce’s death in 1980) Also played Alvin Smedley in Last of the Summer Wine from 2003-10.
