Bernard Youens (1914-84)All RIP now sadly.
Was such a huge shock, So young too, Brilliant in Porridge and before that The Lovers with Paula Wilcox.
I was too young to know at that point but I was still shocked and incredibly saddened as a kid when I found out he was no longer with us a few years later. Porridge and Rising Damp repeats were so prevalent and favourites of mine that he quickly became a favourite for me. The though that someone so youthful, seemingly so recently, was no longer be around was strange for me.
The Water Margin on BBC2 was a good programme and probably the first i ever saw that came from the Far East. Enjoyed Danger UXB on Westward TV, Think Antony Andrew was in the lead role as a bomb disposal officer, Finally A Sharp Intake of Breath starring David Jason, Going by the date maybe a year or two before Only Fools?19th March 1979.
A bit of eclectic viewing on BBC1. QoS, The Rockford Files. A bit of a dry viewing subject on Panorama with Eric Varley Secretary of State for Business (a interesting politician on the right of Labour ) on a trade mission to China post Mao.
The piece de la resistance on BBC1 this evening is the film The McKenzie Break(1970) a good tale about a German POW breakout in Scotland. After many POW films of the 50s & 60s this production was a refreshing change.
I think the 9 O’Clock news would have taken a hit for Basil & Sybil on BBC2.
