That was a great situation comedy. The mid to late 70s had a few excellent ones on the BBC.

The Good Life had such good character actors.
The story line of self sufficiency & getting out of the rat race for Tom & Barbara Good was ahead of its time.

The role of Tom was played perfectly by the wonderful Richard Briers.
Keeping Up Appearances with Patrica Routledge and Geoffrey Hughes from the 90s was in a similar bracket greatness.

A programme I stumbled across on You Tube which I remember from its one & only broadcast run in 1980 is Strangeways,a 4 part documentary about HMP Strangeways(Now called HMP Manchester)

I can’t imagine a similar access all areas documentary warts & all being allowed like that nowadays.

It was fascinating viewing when it was first broadcasted & I will check it out again.

Or before that in the early/Mid 70's "Within These Walls" with Googie Withers as the Governor of this women's prison.

Can't be certain, but I think that popped up on iPlayer. Not sure if it's still there.

I will have a look...I have not noticed it on iplayer(not that i was specifically looking)

I saw a programme about Strangeways & excerpts of the documentary were shown.A prison governor was showing how different the Prison Service was today.
He said the Officers Mess Bar open during shifts so the Prison Officers could have a few pints in their break was one thing that had definitely been done away with ! 😁

That was a bit later early 1990s.

I drove past Strangeways Prison on the way to Salford last season..A forbidding looking place.
