For those with depraved tastes, a special scheduled for Oct 30th, with two class 40 diesels. A locomotive of this class was hauling the Great Train Robbery mail train.

Meh ! A pair of Castles double heading would be far more appealing to this old curmudgeon ! With a bit of luck 2022 will finally see again a "King" in full flight along the sea wall, after a gap of over a decade !

This particular possibly even older curmudgeon shares this opinion. (y)

In RaWZ we trust....Amen.
I’ve never seen this image of the former Teign Valley line at Ide before.Taken from the top of Polehouse Lane i would guess.
You can just see the Station/Halt in the distance(now where St Idas Close is)

Used as a diversion route when the Sea Wall at Dawlish was breached.Closed 1958.

Diesel trains to be removed by 2040 will be a challenge. Electric and battery with the possibility of hydrogen powered tri-mode trains for long distance jouneys, e.g Penzance to Paddington?

Or an excuse for widespread closures of the vast areas still awaiting electrification hidden behind the fig leaf of "economic reasons"...lest we forget, the same reasons that the south west was always excluded from the last WR electrification plan...and even the lines west of Cardiff to Swansea were shamefully ditched at the last moment (but, of course, not until many kerchings had been handed out to the project consultants)

It could make "Beeching" look like the teddy bear's picnic.

We really are approaching the "pantomime season", and Widow Twankey's "Hole in my bucket song" in particular. Railfreight have of course just retired their fleet of Class 90 electric locos and replaced them with diesel haulage, with the rising cost of electricity making them uneconomic ! "Great British Rail" or whatever the latest branding will be, is fast turning into a child's trainset, just going round in circles ! 🇬🇧 :p

Perhaps they should have fitted them with sails? Or wind turbines??
Mind you, the price of diesel too is going through the roof as well so perhaps we should go back to "people power"?

ALL ABOARD FOR THE 0753 RAWZTOUR TO PADDINGTON

So am I 😔
But fret not! Doubtless there's already a team of crack "rail consultants" working, at great public expense, to work out where to fit the pantographs on the Well Tank.

And, as for a remake of Mr Stephensons Rocket for the 21st Century* I'm sure Mr Musk (or Mr Branson) are already rubbing their hands in financial anticipation!

*and you wonder why I sometime appear to be Schizoid, Man?!
