A bathing machine— Women were required to stay fully clothed until they got inside a bathing machine to change into a swimsuit; then someone would wheel the cart out into the ocean so the woman could get into the water privately without without anyone seeing her.

Do pubs have Skittles Leagues anymore ? Most had alleys years ago.

The Gas Club had around 18 teams at one point in the 1980s as was the norm with most Social Clubs & pubs.

There was a whole page in the Express & Echo dedicated to the different leagues in pubs & clubs.
Results,tables & highest individual scorers.

"Budget purdah"...where all of the surprises for the big day were kept secret and securely locked until the chancellor opened his box.

Nowadays it seems to be floated to the tame tory press willy-nilly so that the reaction of the right-leaning public can be gauged and last moment adjustments (or U-turns!) according to the dictat of the Heil or the Torygraph.

Accompanied by a slick social media video. Somehow I don't see Brown or Lawson doing a pre-budget Tic Toc.

Thinking when I saw this old Ford Escort being started, You don't see the Choke pull in car's anymore, In fact for years. Can't remember the last car I owned that had the Choke pull on the dashboard.

By the mid to late 1970s I would think all cars had Automatic Chokes.
My 1973 Cortina had the Choke on the side of the steering column. My 1976 Cortina had a Auto Choke.
You had to get the Choke setting just right on some mornings when it was not too cold or you would flood the carburettor(something else you do not see on cars nowadays) & stink the car out with petrol..Happy Days..Of course if you forget to put the Choke back in once the engine had warmed up you would be doing about 10mpg 😁😁

Record listening booths .View attachment 5519
Years ago, I went into a Fnac record shop somewhere in France. They had a system where you could take CDs into a booth, scan the barcode, and the machine would play the first 30 seconds of every song on the album through a big pair of comfy headphones.
