What we had on Saturday was quality in midfield and someone who could do the donkey work and keep the ball up front. Its what we've been missing all season and without Taylor, Noble or Oakley we jumped back to two weeks ago. Second half was better, as Swindon were average to say the least, but we played the last 20 with Nards having gone lame and as for Artur..... If resting Noble and Oakley gets us a win on Saturday then a fair decision as progress in this cup as pointless but tonight was depressing.
Fair comment on what I saw tonight. Started with only one recognised midfielder, Dunne. So we were always going to struggle on that fact. Artur's impression of a ball playing defender fell flat and from there it was always going to be struggle. To be fair he made fantastic save from a point blank header in the second half. Nardiello's goal was sheer class and Billy Jobes was unlucky with a thunderous drive late on, that was heading for the top corner before being pushed around the post. Nards tried to lob the keeper for a second time but this time it was easily plucked out of the air. Shepherd was busy and things improved when he came on for the injured Duffy.

City tried to get back into the game in the second half but without Noble, Oakely, Taylor and the unused John O'Flynn this was not the "strongest possible" team that Tis promised to select.

Still 2600 fans will have provided City with some extra cash.

No point in looking at this match to appraise our recent improvement as it is
irrelevant to our League campaign.

Well O'Flynn is still not fit, Taylor is on U21 duty, Oakely is probably not fit after 90 mins on Sat and we all know what people think of Noble.

Nicholls is not league 1 standard.....nardiello blows hot and cold.

Once again no killer edge....no wingers and no striker who can get in and around the box and course a state ;)

I go to all the home games but stand with my mates, so sadly its too far away to stalk you. Gutted. As for away games, well, I only go to the decent ones which are few and far between this season. Bring on Hereford away.
Do you think you two can stop highjacking the thread for an ongoing argument? Highjacking the thread with a different topic is spoiling the continuety. ^o)

Jeez. Surely the ultimate example of the pate calling the kettle.

BJ actually scored with a similar pile-driver versus Argyle reserves at SJP last season. All of 25 yards out and the keeper never moved until it was past him and in the net. Super strike it was.

I was under the impression we wanted to lose this game anyway? We rested our best players.

It was Oakley's first game in a while on Saturday, and after lasting 90 minutes in that heat it was felt it might not be the best idea to play him so soon afterwards. As for what people think of Noble, he was due to play tonight but was withdrawn through injury.

We missed arguably the three most influential players from Saturday - had they all been fit/uninjured/available I'd have expected tonight's result to have gone differently.
