Fair comment on what I saw tonight. Started with only one recognised midfielder, Dunne. So we were always going to struggle on that fact. Artur's impression of a ball playing defender fell flat and from there it was always going to be struggle. To be fair he made fantastic save from a point blank header in the second half. Nardiello's goal was sheer class and Billy Jobes was unlucky with a thunderous drive late on, that was heading for the top corner before being pushed around the post. Nards tried to lob the keeper for a second time but this time it was easily plucked out of the air. Shepherd was busy and things improved when he came on for the injured Duffy. What we had on Saturday was quality in midfield and someone who could do the donkey work and keep the ball up front. Its what we've been missing all season and without Taylor, Noble or Oakley we jumped back to two weeks ago. Second half was better, as Swindon were average to say the least, but we played the last 20 with Nards having gone lame and as for Artur..... If resting Noble and Oakley gets us a win on Saturday then a fair decision as progress in this cup as pointless but tonight was depressing.
City tried to get back into the game in the second half but without Noble, Oakely, Taylor and the unused John O'Flynn this was not the "strongest possible" team that Tis promised to select.
Still 2600 fans will have provided City with some extra cash.
No point in looking at this match to appraise our recent improvement as it is
irrelevant to our League campaign.
