We need to find an actual ploughman an to enquire directly the contents of his mid morning meal.
Sounds about right. Piccalilli is an option and I'm not even against the idea of a tomato or even a lettuce leaf on there for a bit of colour but I got a Cheese feckn Salad.Interesting snippet from Wikipedia here.
"Beer, bread, and cheese have been combined in the English diet since antiquity. However, the specific term "ploughman's lunch" is believed to date no further back than the 1950s, when the Cheese Bureau began promoting the meal in pubs as a way to increase the sales of cheese."
For me a Ploughman's should consist of three different types of cheese (Ideally a mature cheddar, a stilton and a soft cheese), an apple, some decent thick slices of ham, a few grapes, some Branston-type pickle and a hunk of bread the size of a house brick. A boiled egg, sliced in half is optional.
I would love to work at the Cheese Bureau.Interesting snippet from Wikipedia here.
