Ah,the smell of Dubbin.

Not to mention "footballers linament".
Gosh can still recall that distinctive, menthol aroma that used to waft from the pitch over to the big bank back in the 60s - especially on those damp, dank, misty-moisty autumn evenings.
Who needed expensive inhalers? 90 minutes of that always cleared the old bronchial tubes!

What about those laces on the old leather footballs? And the soaking , sodden football at the end of a game was like kicking a lead weight about.

I wasn't keen on heading wet footballs. Luckily most of the games I played were in Australia, while at school, and it didn't rain a lot.
