They had a decent team for a few seasons in the 1980s.

Interesting looking at their old London Rd ground,I had forgotten that it had a greyhound track around the pitch...As an aside,I recall going to Stamford Bridge & Wembley in the 1970s,Both also had greyhound tracks around their pitches...Just thought of another one Bristol Rovers(Eastville)
There were a few others back then, maybe Newport, can’t remember if it was a greyhound track or speedway there.Certainly a fair way back from the pitch when standing.

"All football in England below National League level will end immediately and all results will be "expunged", the Football Association has announced."

Looks very likely that they will follow suit & annul the season(National League)

A bit about Workington FC struggles in 1972/73 in the Football League Review which was the FL mouthpiece that was inserted into most clubs programmes from 1966 to 75.6EAAEA5C-C1C9-410A-886B-63AB65427FC5.jpeg

It was a speedway track. It was also hemmed in by Council Housing and the locals were often none too friendly on match days. A vivid memory is of washing quickly being taken off washing lines prior to matches.

Yes..The place was a magnet for trouble when they played at Somerton.

Further to my earlier post about football & speedway at football grounds.Barrow also fell into that category(Barrow Bombers iirc)

Recall the old Somerton Park had to resort to pieces of coconut matting in the corners in order to make the pitch square! :D

Great picture from the late 1960s at Somerton Park.

Just to wind the locals up on the estate by the former ground in Somerton...Some local was shouting abuse out of his bedroom window just after this photo was taken apparently 😁😁 Pic from 87/88.
