We either by accident (shared family logins) or design seem to have most of the streaming services available to us, seriously thought about doing a Jinxy and binning the tv licence recently but was let down massively by Mrs Tavy and her winter obsession with Strictly, so that lovely feeling of not contributing to Lineker’s finances will have to wait unfortunately. 🤷‍♂️

I see the Beeb has cancelled one of their own, Roisin Murphy, after her comments on puberty blockers.

I mean, really?!

And the Graun's review of her new album was somewhere between beyond cringe and painful.

What happened? I think I only know Roisin Murphy from Moloko.
On the basis, I liked a moloko album and found her attractive in 2000/01 I'll be on her side for this.

Ok to fill in the gaps -

Roisin has had quite a successful solo career over the past decade. She is very edgy, most avant garde and has really pushed boundaries. I absolutely love her and her music. She has been a darling of the BBC. Certain BBC radio channels play her relentlessly whilst giving her guest DJ slots. She has just released a new album; the early singles from which, R6 played like never before in its build up.

Then a few days before the albums big release, Roisin posted this on Twitter: “Puberty blockers are fücked, absolutely desolate, big pharma laughing all the way to the bank. Little mixed-up kids are vulnerable and need to be protected, that’s just true.” She then pre-empted criticism, writing “please don’t call me a terf, please don’t keep using that word against women”.

Now at face value, you'd think that was a reasonable thing to say. The BBC and the Guardian thought otherwise. The former has cancelled the playing of any of her songs as well as any promotion of the new album, which is by far her best imho. The Guardian reviewed her album and gave it 5 stars albeit through very gritted teeth: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/sep/07/roisin-murphy-hit-parade-review . I mean, just review the album (or not), and put a separate article around her puberty comments. But no, the Guardian had to meld the two as if they were transmutable (pardon the pun).

Roisin has been devastated by all this and posted up a lengthy and grovelling apology. And imho that's made her look a bit stupid. I would've stood by what I'd originally said. But given the rabidity of the trans lobby, it's an argument you can't really win. I admire JK Rowling's stand as it must be a very involving and stressful road to go down.

Anyway, hope you're up to speed now.

So has the BBC's point blank refusal to recognise Hamas as a terrorist organisation got anyone here reconsidering where they stand wrt the TV License?

I do not want to take responsibility and make judegments for myself. I want to be told what to think by a state sponsored broadcaster.

It amazes me how the self-styled anti-cancel culture warriors want to be told what to think.

I love a bit of state sponsored broadcasting, cos I live here and it's quite good.

If you wanna live freely in this day and age you'll need to rid yourself of the TV, not really read anything and largely not use the Internet.

If you want to have a go at the BBC, Why not give the FA both barrels too? 🤷
Am I to glean from that there will be no moment at football matches to mark the biggest loss of Jewish life since the holocaust? 🤷‍♂️
